I purchased some mums this weekend and I want to split them so I can have them in two different areas of my garden. Do I have to get another one?

Yes you can split the mum plants so long as there is more than one plant in the pot, maybe that was obvious, but just checking.I would probably split them after they have bloomed, this way you can cut them back after flowering which will make it easier to divide the plants. Good luck

Sure you can split them, make sure they have good thick root growth though. I have sucessfully split quite a few mums for outdoor use, they seem to do better when you split them outside rather than indoors in pots.

you can split them. take them out tof the pot and loosen the soil around them and make a split at some point in the middle. you will have to tear some of the roots. plant them in the new area with lots of good soil and water them through with some fertilizer to promote new root growth

No. You can take them out of the pot and pull it in two. You might get some death around the edges but they are hardy flowers.

I do this with all my perennials. Mums, by the way, are an annual, but you can mulch then in the winter and they will most likely come back. They might bloom a bit earlier though.

Yeah you can split them. Just be gentle with the roots. Use a knife to cut through the potting dirt and to separate them. That's how they normally propogate mums.

Yes you can., cut the flowers off then split them. Keep them watered well. Cutting them back puts energy back into the root system.
