Hi, i know the opposite of the a variable to the squared is the square root. how do you do that for the opposite of the power to 5 on a basic calculator?

first press the number

Look on you calculator locate the button that has a Y and a small x " Yˆx " press this button

then press 5

then press the equal ( = ) button

Ok. Just a little information for you. The 5 square root of a number is not the correct wording, you should be asking how to do the fifth root of a number on the calculator.

Well if you have a basic calculator you may not be able to do this, but the easiest way to do this is to raise the number to the 1/5 power as that is the same as the fifth root.

The "second root" is the same as raising to the (1/2) or (0.5) power; similarly, to take the fifth root, you can raise to the (1/5) or (0.2) power.

Check: Fifth root of 10 = 1.584893

if you're talking about a basic calculator, i.e. a 4 function calculator you cant do a 5 root.

however if you're using something that lets you use exponents, use 1/5 as the exponent and thats the same thing.

You can't do it on a basic calculator. You need a graphing calc most likely. You need 5root x. Or you could do ^1/5.
