September 16th is Independence Day in Mexico. (No one really cares about 5 de Mayo in Mexico)
There's a ceremony to the flag in the National Palace in Mexico City and then the President shout recognitions and compliments to the Independence heroes and ring the bell that was ringed originally on the September 16th, 1810. After that there is party at the zocalo with dances, food and of course drinking.
People mainly from the center of the country gather in family to watch the President's speech by TV, then there's dinner and party. In every city there's firecraft shows and lots lots of party.

They have a big party at the plaza. The kids throw confetti eggs. They have a lot of fireworks that make tons of noise (sounds like cannons going off)

Mayo Cinco - or May 5th - is celebrated in the same style as our 4th of July. Special fiestas, parties, dances, banquets, mariache bands and musicians playing their instruments and singing, but with less speeches.
It is a very Special festive day! Good food, good cervesa (beer) and lots of Tequila with beautiful women to go along with it!
VIVA MAYO CINCO! VIVA LA MEXICO!
