People may carry their own cloth around with them to dry their hands after washing them in a public place. Also, they may want to carry a cloth with them, so that if a bench or seat is wet that they want to sit down on, they can dry it off easily.

Click! Perhaps you mean a handkerchief? In their pocket? The way you described it brought up a strange visual image. But if this is what you meant, it's for blowing your nose, although I don't think many women would carry one around in their back pocket....

Some kids wear those things as a fashion statement.

Old people use them to blow their noses.. which is pretty gross, especially when they put it back in their pockets....

Which brings up another question.. Why the hell would kids take something so digusting, and try to turn it into something fashionable?!

Its a status symbol, like a nurse wearing her stethoscope around her neck. The cloth says, "I have a job!"
