They use pretty much the same chemical/hormonal reaction to determine if you're pregnant.
The rule of thumb is that a home pregnancy test can produce a "false negative", but rarely a "false positive".
Translation: If the home pregnancy test says you're pregnant, you most likely are.

Both are urine tests that measure beta-hcg the hormone produced in pregnancy, the test at the office and at home are the same, blood levels are much more accurate but more expensive. HCG doubles every 2 days in the beginning of pregancy, so if you have a negative test very early after your missed period it would be wise to repeat in 4-7 days to be sure.
We always say a + is a + and a - is a maybe.

home pregnancy test can show up a negative if your not far a long at all, like a few days... and it can really be that you are.. But a doctors blood test can show it within a few days... So, its just a little more accurate, but if its been a few weeks, there is really no difference... if its positive, then its positive... Home ones can be cheaper to, depending on your insurance...Good luck!

the home pregnancy tests using urine sample are the same as at doctors.
if you want to buy yours so you are the first to know look at a few different tests and on the pack you will see where it tells you how accurate and early the detection is. use the most accurate one.

Well, I think they are eqwually accurate. (At least the urine ones.) But you could save yourself the money that you would spend on the home one, because your doctor will do a test anyway. Unless you are too excited, and can't wait! (Like I get) I have even used dollar store tests that were accurate. Good luck to you! :-)

They are basically the same, except the Dr. office can give you a blood test to see if you are pregnant, if you prefer.

The urine test you take at home is just as accurate as a urine test at the Dr. A dr. told me that last week.
