Okay, I have hated rap music for about 3 years now because I think it is just a pointless type of music. I don't see a problem in rappers acting unless they're good, but making a movie on their life about how "they have it hard", "they're too tough to be famous", and "rapping is the only way I'll save my mom from being evicted". No one cares about what happened before their life, but now that they're famous, they're making songs bragging about how much chicks they can get, and how rich they are. That is personally why rap is a pointless kind of music. All the songs are about the same thing. Rock is personally my favorite because it's almost never about the same thing. They talk about politics, life, and just plain things going on in life. Rockers most of the time even go to acting because they set their heart out on to be rockers. Rappers are kind of hipocritical with their movies then sexist songs. What do you guys think?

i totally agree with you. Im sick of these no talented asses getting rich and famous,, they didnt take the time to learn any instrument, its like at least in most rockbands they all play something like bass/guitar ect..... These rappers just pay someone to mix a good beat on the pc for them,,, it alll sounds the same,, and they trash talk people like hell, especially women.. Some VERY FEW songs are okay and originall.... but as for all these "i bang in my white t " songs, omg, im just so sick of it, and i wish people would stop buying into their crap.... They cant even rap, its like how paris hilton is now a singer, i mean COME ON PEOPLE , get with it,,,, they just want your money and dont care about anything else... and they plain SUCK, its just computer generated and mixed... why do you think EVERY RAP CONCERT ever created gets horrible reviews.... because they dont have their PC NEXT TO THEIR ***.

Well, rap music wasn't always about sex. There were many political rap groups in the 80s. There were people that told a story about how life was for them but it had a positive overtone. Think about "The Message". Think about Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince. They were able to rap and give a story without cussing, fussing, and putting people down. A lot of people didn't like them in the 80s because they said the group was too soft. I disagree. There are many groups that were able to make fun songs for dancing that weren't sexist or hypocritical. If you listen to a lot of rap like I have, you would probably find some songs or groups that are outside of the modern stereotype. However, I do agree with you about most of the modern rap that talks about sex, drugs, and stupidity on a grand scale.

I could care less. These isn't one type of music I despise, if I don't like it, I don't listen.

I am impressed with the way many rappers can free-style. Those kind-of improvisation skills are really impressive.

No one is forcing you to go to their movies, either.
How are rappers hypocritical? They aren't saying "Hey, I am a wonderful person who has had it so good and I treat women great." and then turning around and doing the opposite. With many rappers, you get what you see. There is nothing hypocritical about that at all.

I am not a huge fan of rap, my music tastes are rather eclectic...I try not to be so closed minded. maybe you just haven't found the kind of rap you might enjoy....try The Beastie Boys...their songs and rhyme schemes are fun and interesting. I never liked Eminem much until I saw him on SNL with Dido and his rap was so beautiful it brought me to tears.

By saying you hate an entire genre of music without really listening to all the offerings is denying yourself the opportunity to open the doors to more variety. Ans it makes you look closed minded, which I doubt you are.

I like how many genres of music tell stories with their songs:Rock, folk, punk, country and also rap.

Rap is a very violent form of entertainment. It degrades woman and is very anti-cop. Majority of these performers cannot even hold a note so it's not even music, I understand that it's the beat, as it is not sung but rather talking. Anyone could write down some crap and rap it out and it possibly would sell. Rappers in my opinion are the biggest form of prostitution in the music industry. I agree that rockers can educate as well as entertain and take on many different subjects. It was after all the music of the 60's and early 70's that truly changed the face of politics, the Vietnam War and a whole generation of liberal people's thinking.

DUDE!!!! RAP SUCKS!!!! It has no point. All it talks about is sex, how they have grillz, and how awesome they are. Me, I'm a rock fan and nothing but. I hate rap, country, and classical music. Rock isn't just them screaming out random words, it has meaning and all that crap. Plus, I don't like how rap always has the same beat. To put it in more simple terms, I HATE RAP!

i personally like rap however i dont like what current rap music messages are. its just the current MAINSTREAM genre of rap is "gansta rap" which talks about promoting violence, promiscuity, drug use, misogyny etc...rap before this time had more meaning to it(before the 90s) it talked more of positive aspects such as getting out of the hood and advancing etc...ask for learning instruments someone said above me. it just a tradition of hip hop the different elements (Bboying, DJing,MCing and graffiti) the DJs would provide the music for the MCs to rap to.

Hopefully soon artist will leave this new genre and go for the better, people such as Kanye West, and The Black Eyed Peas have more meaningful lyrics; but as of now gansta rap is the mainstream.

I totally agree with you! Rap makes no sense. Its the art of talking fast, in which case they should work at a call centre. Its not music, thats for sure.
The beat is good sometimes but thats not really the rap part of it, is it??? I love Rock just like you coz its unpredictable. I like all sorts of music otherwise, but I cant stand Rap. Its also very degrading to women. The videos have to be turned off if theres a kid sitting nearby.

I think when people say they hate rap or hip hop, they are not giving it a chance. I think it's a cultural preference.

Rap music tends to have a good beat, the good rap, anyway. What I find distasteful about much rap is its lack of originality.

Rap expresses the realities, dreams, expressions of urban black youth. If you can't or don't want to relate to it, it may be because your own cultural set, family, or role models encouraged you to listen to other music.

If you lived where they lived, if you had to experience what they experience, maybe you might see things differently. Sure, you might think you're better than they. Are you? If you are a better human being, then show some tolerance, open your mind a little, consider what the other is saying.

I despise it because it is all the same to me. I prefer music with more melody and also with real instruments.

I don't have to like music to appreciate it. For example I'm not a fan of country music, but unlike rap music I can respect it because there are people in it who can play and sing.

As there is little or no melody the texts should do it. Unfortunately the lirics are usually extremely boring too.
