As man y others have said, often elderly and/or sick parents need more care than the children can provide them, so a care center is the logical, and often only, choice.
Many adult children DO frequently visit their parents in nursing care. And many don;'t. Sometimes it's because the adult child/ren live too far away, and for whatever reasons cant -- or wont -- m ove closer. Sometimes the adult child/ren don't think, and don't realize how important it is, it isn't that they don't care, they just dont bother to think.
And ... sometimes... there are reasons the adult child/ren aren't there more frequently. Don't be too quick to judge. There may be situations involved that you don't know, but that make it too difficult for an adult child to be involved with their parent ... like abandonment, abuse, neglect, etc.

Depending upon the care that is required to keep them healthy and safe then no. However, if the care they require involves daily shots or records that must be diligently kept by a nurse and they are going to need to see the doctor alot then you may not have a choice. If a loved one has to be placed in a home, then try to make it as close to you as possible because they need interaction with family members as often as possible. Also do your research and find out what their health scores have been for at least the last 5 years and ask some of the more lucid patients if they feel comfortable where they are. There should be a smell of antiseptic quite probably but you should never be assailed by the stench of urine upon entering the building.

No, they should not be left alone! The needs of the elderly are sometimes more than the family can bear and it is in the best interest of the elder if they go somewhere that can assist them 24 hours a day and provide them with the care that they need. But, even though the family cannot care for them doesn't mean that they shouldn't visit and let them know that they still care and still are involved.

I think family members should try everything possible to care for their elderly family members, I know sometimes families don't have a choice in the matter like when they need 24 hour a day medical care, some members of the family aren't qualified to do this so then I would think a nursing home would be necessary. If the family just don't want her then I would think it would be very wrong considering that person gave them life and gave them anything they needed.

No. I think it's sad the way some families put their elderly members in nursing homes and then just leave them there. At least they should care enough to visit on a regular basis and make sure the person is being taken care of. That older person took care of their family when they werwe younger and now some people just write them off and stick them somewhere to wait for them to die. Family's should be more involved and take care of their elders.

It's a lot of work caring for the elderly, sometimes they need round the clock care. It's better for them to go to a nursing home where they provide that care. You don't do for your kids, so that they do for you, later on down the line. You raise your kids so that they can live a good life. If they are busy taking care of you, you are taking away from them.

I think that anyone who puts someone they supposedly love in a nursing home is a horrible person. My mother put her mother in a nursing home because she didn't want to take care of her anymore. My grandmother begged my mother not to put her there and she did anyway, and within 2 weeks my grand mother died. And I believe it was my mother's fault, and for years after that, my mother has said to her children, if I ever get real sick please don't put me in a nursing home. If it came to the point that it was my decision, I would put her in just to let her feel what her mother felt.

Unfortunately elderly people are sometimes in need of care that can't be done by their children. I think that they should be visited on a regular basis though.
