I had mine done 16 yrs. ago, so I'm not sure if things have changed, but for me the actual piercing didn't hurt so much. Its after that was a bit brutal. I ate a lot of (creamy) ice cream, meaning no nuts fruit or anything that may have irritated the piercing. I started using chop sticks to eat everything, and i mean EVERYTHING! Reason being you can place the food directly on the side of your mouth. You don't realize how much you use your tongue to keep food in between your teeth as you chew, that is until it hurts like the dick-ins when you attempt it, so you improvise and i did with chopsticks.
Another person i know had it done by their dentist a couple of yrs. ago, she had to bring in the jewelry of course, but this allowed her to have her tongue numbed.
So you could go have it numbed at the dentist and go to have it pierced, be sure you ok it w/the person doing the piercing, some wont do it while your numb. And don't try to fool them either , there is alot of fluid that they pump into your tongue to numb it, so you'll have a much larger tongue than normal, they will give you the appropriate size jewelry for the size of your tongue at that moment and in about 4-5 days when the swelling goes down you'll end up with a chipped or broken tooth because the barbell was to big for your mouth.

It is a quick little pain. Think of a quick pinch of your skin, it hurts for a few moments, than it's over. Biting your tongue hurts alot more than piercing it. It will swell up afterwards. It's like having a big bruise on you arm, however in this case, it would be on your tongue. Take advil, chew ice,and if you are going to eat. Try to eat soft foods. Mashed potatoes, soup.etc.

First of all YES it hurts - very badly. Your tongue is a major organ, of course it hurts to get a needle shoved through it. Afterwards you can't each right for around a week.

Second of all you stated that you are only 16 years old so what do you really need with a tongue ring?

Yes it hurts, if you want it bad enough - get it. It won't hurt forever. Don't be a puss.

PS don't expect helpful answers from people if you are going to give them bitchy answers to their questions. Grow up.

Actually it doesn't hurt too bad when you first get it pierced. Afterwards, when you eat you have to be very careful not to chew on it, or get food in the hole where it is pierced. And rinse your mouth with listerine, because if you don't it could possibly get infected b/c of the food particles. All in all it's not very painful and you have to remember to take very good care of it, that's all.

It doesn't hurt...but if you are a sissy and cry everytime that something hurts a little bit then do not do it. To help the swelling go down take Midol...

Well of course it will hurt, but that is all part of the game. You'll have to outweigh the trend over the pain.
