Chess player go through years of cardiovascular training. Building up great strength and muscle flexibility. During a match they can have heart rate of +190 and build up a large amount of lactic acid.
Don't know why darts is a sport though

It's not a physical sport (or maybe moving you arm is) but a sport of mind. But you're right when we say "sports" we automatially think "physically" whereas we shouln't. There are "bridge", "chess", "poker" ...

I suppose anything where you have to compete to find the best can be concidered a sport even though you dont break a sweat.
I think there's merit in sports that you have to use intelligence and stratagy. And both are involved in many physical sports such as decently played soccer.
Although in saying that, synchronised swimming WTF?

because the players have to compete against each other. i guess this rings true with all sports.
