on my hd direct tv reciever, there is a Ka/Ku converter, what does this exactly do?

its a brand new hd reciever, and the item in qestion is a little black coax converter which is for Ka/Ku.

ka/ku is for the hd. In some areas of the country in order to get your local hd channels in hd you need a 5 lnb dish. Some areas do not need. when in doubt about what exactly you need contact your satellite co. If those conections are not being utilized and a professional installed for you, forget them they are not necessary.
