I play in a band and I'm finding that the more popular we become the harder it is to make friends. It's hard to talk to a hundred different people in one night and make any sort of connection. I still want to play music but I don't understand why people want to be famous as it seems like a lonely, materialistic life. Why do you think people want to be known?

I don't want to be famous at all. I want the job and to play the music but I would rather that no one recognised me when I got off stage.

There are different degrees of Fame. There are the people who crave publicity at any cost, go out to clubs, scantily dresses etc. They might be famous but what use are they to the community. Then you have people like Richard Branson and Bill Gates. They are famous, wealthy and an asset to the community. Bill Gates for instance donates $billions to charity and has now set up a trust to administer the funds. These people that go onto these ******* reality shows, are just after a quick buck [I"m not a Yank]People like Paris Hilton are famous for being infamous. I went to see Mama Mia in London last year and Paul McCartney was sat with Heather in the stalls just in front of me. He wasn"t hassled by anybody. but then again he probably didn"t ring the papers to say he was going. Anyway I hope you become famous, just think how to use your fame.

Why do you think people want to be known?

The above is really the most interesting part of your question. Because wanting to be known isn't the same as your first question about fame. How can people with fame make real connections? Can you be reciprocally real with people who may want to know you for your fame or because of it? How will famous people ever know what the truth is in their relationships?

In normal life being known is such a big thing. Wanting to be known for exactly who you are in a way that means you can be open and true in every single aspect of your life. If you find one person that knows you in a way that includes every fault and crinkle, and loves you for it. Then you are a blessed person. indeed

Do you want to be a famous musician or famous? If you're a famous musician you're "in it for the music", if you just want to be famous then I don't think that's good. Being famous shouldn't be an end - it should be a side-effect. Still a double-edged sword.

I live in Asia where I have a micro-fame for being a Westerner. It irritates the crap out of me. I definitely don't envy fame at all. 0.0000000000001% of what Beckham gets is really annoying. It sounds strange, but I really pity him (or more accurately his fame)

I think most people just want the bliss of anonymous peace.

Good luck with the band.

So they can have an a*s load of money. They say money doesn't buy happiness but it sure buys alot of hookers, not to mention nice cars and houses. People in general are greedy and so it is in there nature to seek out ways to get money. Good for you not getting caught up in the rush of famousness and still actually wanting to make a connection with people and not just use them.

Guess they want to be famous coz they need to confirm they are good upon the acceptance of everyone

And also coz they might not know what it implies...the loss of freedom and privacy.

I would never look for being famous, at least it could give me a political or economical power to at least try to fix the world...but otherwise I dont think I look for anybody´s approval, I dont give a...thing...

Not many people want to be famous at all its an owful life, but the media wants someone to direct the people to worship in the absence of the recognition of God Almighty. So it could be you dragged into it next.

a lot of people want to be famous to get rid of bad childhood or young adulthood experiences of maybe bullying... or even just low self esteem...
being recognised and having fans gets rid of the self esteem.
