First- Goldfish CANNOT live in bowls. Baby-juvenil fancy goldfish NEED 10 gallons PER fish (fantails, ryukins, orandas, moors, ect) and baby-juvenile long bodied goldfish NEED 20 gallons PER fish. Adult goldfish need no less then 50 gallons PER fish. They require a high amount of dissolved oxygen in the water and ALOT of filtration because they are dirty fish.

Second- Bettas are warmwater fish, goldfish are coldwater fish.

Third- Bettas become territorial in anything less then 5 gallons.

Fourth- Goldfish will swallow small fish that they think can fit in their mouths.

Fifth- Breeding bettas is ALOT of work and requires a 10 gallon tank, submersible tank heater, alot of time and patience, and proper conditioning for the male and female betta. http://www.bettatalk.com

If the goldfish is in a bowl then give it to someone who will take care of it properly then use that bowl for the female betta. You should also think about where you will put the fish before you buy them.

I don't think anything should be in a bowl though, it's cruel. And bettas actually live in a lot more water in the wild then what most people think.

Please don't do that to the betta.
First off they should be keep at two different water temps, Goldfish about 68 degree and Better about 75-82 degree.
Also Goldfish have no stomachs, so their food and waste pass right through them and pollute the water fast, as a result to a large build up of ammonia, subjecting a betta to that, is unfair, because they are quick to get fin rot if not keep in cleaner water conditions.
One more thing, both fish are relatively known for their aggression. WHO WILL WIN THAT FIGHT IF ONE GETS PISSED? Better not to even find out(smile)

I'm going to tell you a little story, then you can decide for yourself. 20 years ago I had a single betta which I named blueberry because of his brilliant blue color. I liked him so much I decided to get 3 female bettas and try to breed bluberry with them so I can have more pretty "blueberry" fish. I was new at it and didn't have a clue back then. I put them all together in a 10 gal. tank. Within 15 minutes I saw 2 of the 3 females viciously attact the male. they took turns at him. one bit down on his lower fin and actually dragged him to the bottom of the tank pinning him. The other tore at him from the top as he was being dragged down. they pinned him there and shredded & bloodied him. The only reason I did not scoop him out of the tank right away is because I though he could fight them off. After all he is the male, known as the FIGHTING fish. after seeing him try to swim away but just kept being attacked I raced to the net and scooped him out. he barrly survived. After that day I learned everything I could about them. Don't put your betta in the tank with your goldfish if for no other reason but aggressiveness. they truly can be vicious. those same 2 fish also attacted me directly while I had my arm in the tank to put some fake plants in. They were to small to actually hurt me and only managed to bite & rip out a few arm hairs. but you get the piont. Now that being said...I don't keep goldfish so don't truley know what the interaction would be between the 2. but why take the chance? if you decide to breed them (bettas) do one at a time separately. the male will letteraly squeeze the eggs out of her and scoop them up in his mouth and spit them into a bubble nest he makes for them. take the female out right after they mate. leave only the male with the eggs to take care of them.

im pretty sure your beta would eat the goldfish before the goldfish would eat her. Goldfish in fish land is a snack for all. Unless they are the same sized i wouldnt even do it. Fish are VERY terratorial, Why cant you put the two goldfish together? I had seven in a tank , they didnt eat eachother, but our oscar ate them all in about 30 seconds!

I'd think yes. I always see betas in fish stores with other fish. I wouldn't recommend putting the male with the goldfish though, I tried that once and the beta was really nasty-trying to nip at the other fish. So I had to remove the beta. If you are still not sure, try calling a pet store.

I agree with many of the people on here- DON'T PUT THEM TOGETHER!!! Goldfish like cold water ( 60-70) Bettas love warm water,( 78-85). you cant find a happy medium. Female Betta's can be stored together, but that doesn't mean that they are a schooling fish. they fight amongst themselves for dominance. So all in all BAD IDEA!

You should not put a Betta with a goldfish, because a goldfish can have colder water. Also your Betta may trying to fight with your goldfish. I know when my grandfather had put a Betta into his goldfish bowl and forgot about it the Betta how killed the goldfish.

I had this question myself once and the answer I found is: no.

Goldfish have a unique type of coating to their skin which can be potentially fatal to other fish. This is why you rarely see them in a community tank.

Also, you CAN put betas in with other types of semi-agressive fish. They get along just fine. I had a beta in a tank with a couple gouramis and some hatchet fish for quite a few years.

Yes I had a female beta and put it in with goldfish. When you buy female beta they have them in tanks with other fish.
