I have had crab rangoon at the chinese restaurant and I have tried to make it at home. I took imitation crab, onion, celery, and red pepper, all finally chopped and mixed with a cream cheese and parmesean cheese. I put a spoonfull in the middle of a wonton wrapper and pressed the center of each side together, like a little pastry flower (best description I have). I know that at a restaurant they probably fry them but I put them in the oven @ 350 for 10-20 mins depending on how crispy you like them. All of that = yummy!!

It is an appetizer made by mixing together chopped crab meat, chopped onions and cream cheese. It it then put into a small wonton wrapper and folded into a triangle for deep frying.
We have a local Chinese restaurant that we always buy them at (Changhai at Countryside) because they fill them very plump with filling. Most of the restaurants seem to be in a contest to see how little filling you can put into the crab rangoon. So usually when you get them in as an appetizer they have no flavor for lack of filling. When you get the plump ones they are unbelievably good. When we try a new restaurant we always check the 'goons to tell how good the food will be. It eliminates a lot of losers very quickly.

Crab Rangoon is made with a wonton shell/pastry, with a filling of cream cheese, crab meat and finely minced green onion. Some people me included sometimes substitute fake crab meat instead of the real crab meat. It's still yummy!
