It is not bad at all I have a tattoo and the peircing was nothing compared to that it is over in seconds, you will be tender around the belly button area for a few days maybe up to a week and try not to wear jeans as the button will pull at the belly bar and can be a bit sore....after a few weeks you will not even know it is there!!!! good luck!!!!

ive had my belly button done twice, id didnt have it numbed either, and both times it didnt hurt, but i have a high pain threshold, i also have a few tatoos, my advice is a tattoo hurts when its being done but when they stop the pain stops, a peircing doesnt hurt when you have it done but is sore for a while afterwards. My hubby is the expert hes got quite a few peircings and still goes back for more, hes covered in tattoos, and you know what hes the biggest tit alive lol, he faints at the mention of any surgical procedure i.e canulars in the back of your hand, giving blood, my point is some people can handle pain better than others, if your not sure get it numbed...and once its done keep it clean lol...

You shouldn't feel that much pain when getting your belly button pierced because the piercer should clamp the area well enough to restrict the blood supply to it. If the piercer says that they are going to numb the area with an antiseptic, walk right out the shop and never go back. This should never be done. It will be more painful for you after the piercing has taken place. Take my advice, I'm a body piercer!

Here's a story for you. My wife and I went to a tattoo/piercing shop and they told her they wouldn't pierce her belly because she wore her pants too high. WTH?

Anyway - being the strong-minded woman she is - she buys a kit online and DOES IT HERSELF! Couldn't believe it! She hasn't had any problems thus far and it's been well over a year now since she did it.

As to the pain. I would think that a quick puncture of your belly button hurts MUCH less than a 2 hour stint for a tattoo (I have a tattoo so I know the pain there). Good luck!

Hi Loz - mine didnt hurt at all, in fact I sat up and asked when they were going to do it but it was already done! I had some sort of anaesthetic wipe used on my belly first. The only thing that hurt was because I had a REALLY flat tummy, they couldnt get a proper 'pinch' to pierce so got a bit of bruising from the clamp thing. My hubby (well, boyf at the time) was with me and he went green watching hehe! Def get it done, very cool! :O) xx

ive had my belly button done twice, my ears 3 times, top of ear once, and my eyebrow done, lets put it this way, the piercing at the top of my ear hurt like HELL!!! the belly button dosent hurt, the worst bit is when they clamp it, but thats the equivalent to having a clothes peg on it for 20 seconds! they usually spray numbing stuff on it too if you want it!!!

Well, when I got mine done I 'borrowed' some emla/ametop cream from my local hospital which is used to numb an area of a child arm before thay have a blood test (known as magic cream!). So I didnt feel a thing, although it hurt a little after the numbness went!

Also, it takes months to heal but thats another story!!

It doesn't hurt any worse than an ear. Just watch for an infection. And blood poisoning, a friend got that from her piercing (it is rare though).

i had mine pierced many years ago...it hurt a little..its mostly the anticipation of the fear of it hurting...i have my tongue pierced and a huge one through my ears...i didnt have any trouble with it except for it constantly rubbing on my jeans or even getting caught on it...mine seemed to never heal, it was constantly crusty, bleeding and had some puss...sorry..it would go away and then something would trigger it again...the only pain of the belly piercing is trying to keep it healthy after its done

It doesn't hurt much at all, its like getting your ears pierced. I have to tell you though, don't look when they are doing it! They use a hollow needle that removes, yes, removes, a chunk of your skin to make the hole. And that was REALLY gross. Its sore afterwards, but I guess its to be expected when they remove a part of your body.
