The term "anti-American" is now being used in articles that describe Iraqi insurgents who oppose the continued U.S. military presence in what used to be their country. If you're an American and you oppose the use of the U.S. military to continue carrying out operations in Iraq that kill civilians at will and that create more and more mass destruction, does that mean you're not a "true" American? In other words, is it only the "true" Americans who support war and the use of aggression as a means to an end, and the others are all anti-American?

Please, Yes or No -- AND WHY?

It is nothing but the truth that the U.S. military kills Iraqi civilians as deemed "necessary" according to the will of president Bush and other military leaders as long as such targets are deemed targets linked to terrorist activities. Many of these targets are in residential areas. This is a simple fact and not a partisan opinion.

this question would have done better in the philosophy section to be honest. in my opinion a true American is one that can question the system. if they question that system and still agree with it then fine. as for me and many others, i don't agree with how things are being handled at this time, and i re-evaluate that on a regular basis.. that is what American is to me... we have the right to disagree with our government and when we can no longer do that, democracy has failed.

You've added too many variables to your question.
For example: "...Iraq that kill civilians at will...", where the hell did you get that information?

Look, I'm an American.
I reluctantly supported our president back in 2002 when he presented the so-called facts and reasons to invade Iraq.
Now, I am very angry that I was lied to.

Regardless, I support our troops 100%...it is their job to follow orders, not question policy.
BUT: I do NOT support the policy, based on lies and deceptions told by the Bush Administration.

I know that I am a "true Americans", and it is my right to take a position on the war.
So, my answer is NO: true Americans are not only the ones who support war as a means to an end.

War is a legitimate means to an end when:
* there is a clear and present threat
* the cause is just
* there is a reasonable expectation of winning
* the war is proportionate to the threat
* all other alternatives have been exhausted
* rules and laws of war are obeyed

Regrettably, none of these principles of "just war" apply to the present American war in Iraq. The nature of the dispute between the United States and other countries is that the U.S. seeks to utilize war as a unilateral instrument of economic policy, while other countries prefer to keep it as an instrument of last resort to deal with actual threats.

I think that such sentiments are rooted in the ultra-conservative belief that America is morally superior to the rest of the world. George Bush clearly believes so, as do the vast majority of "neo-cons." It's sad, and the consequences are obvious.

Most of the "anti-American" ideas regarding the Iraq conflict and war on terror come from the right.

americans are americans. with or without a backbone.this war happened because america was attacked first. Mr. bush saw fit to fight back. if a person walks up and smacks me in the face I hit back and hit back hard as i can. Mr bush done the same thing. to many americans these days have no back bone for fighting back. oh well to each his own. americans are americans. backbone or not.

Your question is so full of misleading information, (our military is not killing civilians at will) that it really does not deserve a response other than to correct your liberal false statements.
