Is it me, or did he look fake? I've seen parkinsons sufferers have trembling hands, but he looked like he was dancing.

Michael J Fox explains most of it in his book.

First he stops taking his meds, that increases the tremors in his hands and involuntary tics. Then just before filming or making a public appearance he takes his meds, the effect of the meds is the uncontrollable swaying. There is a short gap after taking the meds where you get the effect he displays throughout the commercial. He used this trick when he appeared before the House for hearings on stem cell research.

He wasn't acting, or faking it. But he did play with his meds to get that effect. He is understandably anxious to cure his disease, and he is dedicated to the cause. But it is dishonest to enhance the lack of muscle coordination like he did. But WTF... it is politics.

I dont think he was faking. People with Parkinsons have various degress of shaking. I work in a hospital and I have seen paitents with Parkinsons mildly shake and some look like they are having seizures. That is an unfair statement to make without actually seeing the man from day to day. From what I know about MJF, he has been pretty honest about his disease.

Rush Limbaugh (I'm not sure of the spelling of his last name) pointed out the same fact. I don't think Michael J. Fox would do that. I think maybe he just didn't take his medicine to help control his movements. He did the same thing when he went to Congress a few years back to speak about Parkinson's and it really showed the effect it had on him.

Politics is a cruel trade. I think that Michael knows quite well how to play his cards to the best effect. That is not to say that he was acting up. He clearly has an agenda and you would hardly expect him to minimise his symptoms when promoting this cause. This is a technique well used by politicians all over the world and Michael should not be castigated for "over-egging the pudding". There are no laws against it in a Democracy.

They are saying now that he may have gone off his meds prior to doing the filming. He said that he's done that before because it shows everyone what the disease really does when it's full fledged. I certainly do not think he was faking it. The meds that they take usually control the severity of the tremors.

You must be smoking the same thing Rush Limbaugh is smoking. I saw it and it's very sad that you would make that comment. Why would anyone want to fake that?!
He's had it for quite some time, maybe it excalated to more than just "trembling hands."

I agree that was a cruel statement to make. If you had seen him on Boston Legal you would know its not under control even when he's on his meds he still sways back and forth some. Parkinson's and Huntington's are horrible diseases that shouldnt be ridiculed.

Who is anyone to judge the severity of someone's disease? Every human is an individual, so every person's disease will effect them in a unique manner.

Looking at some of your past questions, you have an incredible ability to make statements that will deliberately get a rise out of people. How about trying to get a real life if you can't ask plausible questions in an adult manner?

I feel bad for the guy, and he does have it pretty bad, but it can typically be controlled by medicine. In his book, he admitted that at times, specifically when he is testifying before congress, he will not take his medicine to make the testimony more dramatic. Wether that's right or wrong...it's up to you. But it's sad he would ever dramatize, or not take medicine, to make people feel bad or guilty. That's what medicine is for. Nonetheless, good guy, emotional about his disease, will do what it takes to get to people and make a point.
