why would a Republican black man be called an "Uncle Tom"?

In my view the Democratic policy of free money to people who don't want to work, just creates more people who do not want to work. Not wanting to work is bad for any race, not just the blacks. The Republican policy of less benefits plus policies that help job creation is good for the black race and all races.

I contend the true "Uncle Toms" are the blacks who tout the Democrat's policies as being good for blacks.

For the PC police, please substitute the words "African American" for the word "black" found above.

I agree - even FDR said welfare programs have "narcotic" effects - people get used to them and don't try as hard.

That's true of everyone, regardless of race.

It never ceases to amaze me how willing Democrats are to use the most vile racist stereotypes to pillory blacks who don't agree with the Democrat/liberal view. Clarence Thomas portrayed as a lawn jockey. Condoleeza Rice parodied as Butterfly McQueen. Oreos thrown at Michael Steele. They do seem oh-so-ready to spring forth with this bigorty. They have apparently not strayed far from their segregationist roots.

Following any party "blindly" or a person is not good for anyone. What if all Americans dropped the "parties" and became independents. Just vote for the candidate who will get the job done or who will not just represent a party - but will represent his or her constituents - and doesn't own oil or million dollar ranches. Imagine that - a candidate who knows what it is to work for a living! Wouldn't that be nice. But I think many blacks feel that certain candidates are more in tune to the struggles of everyday life and those candidates happen to be more liberal. For the most part blacks are very conservative when it comes to religion and fundamentals and right to life. But many are still operating in "survival" mode for the basics of housing etc.

As a former political pr rep my take is that - the current adminstration's response to Katrina did not help the Republican's cause. They completely dropped the ball on that. In fact - they not only dropped the ball they poked with a needle and tried to play "dumb" - which was pretty dumb. They now have damage control problems in a lot of areas - including the environment and foriegn policy.

They are just really, really ignorant about Africa. They don't expect all Europeans to have identical skin tone and hair so why expect if of Africans? Saying an African with brown skin must be part non-African is like saying all Europeans must have fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes- - and if an Italian or a Spaniard is darker than a Swede it must be because they are part African. Next time you hear someone say that about Africans, tell them that comparison. The people in the Southern U.S used to have many different categories for mixed race. I think I have heard they had them in the Caribbean too. A sign of how obsessive preoccupation with this subject! griffe = 3/4 black, 1/4 white mulatto = ½ black, ½ white quadroon = ¼ black, 3/4 white octaroon = 1/8 black, 7/8 white quintroon = 1/16 black, 15/16 white

Because the majority of the blacks have been brainwashed for so long that they cannot see the truth. I believe the tide is turning but it will not be quick. I have heard more blacks express conservative ideas as of late.

I am also pleased by the reaction of the left to the blacks who do step off of the liberal plantation. They vilify and demonize anyone who speaks out. I am pleased because it looks like desperation to me and I think their acts are going to turn many blacks off and have them examine their views as a whole. That is the way I became a rightwinger.

They are labeled because they dare to think independently and break away from the mindless allegiance that the black community has to the Democratic party. The Dems rely upon the most misinformed and mindless to get elected (coupled with a little voter fraud). That is indeed a sad fact.

" I contend the true "Uncle Toms" are the blacks who tout the Democrat's policies as being good for blacks."

Inner cities have been governed by Democrats for years. They have not improved. They have gotten worse.

Education is now governed by liberal teacher unions. Education has not improved. It has gotten worse.

Economies run by Dems generally do not improve. They stagnate or fail. Jobs are lost.

In high crime areas, Dems have disarmed law abiding citizens who are now unable to defend themselves. Often they're afriad of leaving their homes for fearing of being shot to death.

In such cases, Dems have actually harmed blacks much more than Republicans ever could.

Thank you for stating what political 'leaders' fear to. You are an example of a 'responsible' individual who does not rely upon government to take care of you. Government is not a nursemaid, for any group, white, black, brown, yellow, etc. Government is not to be depended upon as a benefactor. It is a detriment for any people to so heavily depend upon the 'good graces' of a political/societal group.
...I am not much for political correctness. It just makes a mess of what is meant to be done.

Yeah, a term like "Uncle Tom" somehow loses its mystique when it applies to millions of people.

I can't fault your reasoning. But I might answer your question with a question. What, then, do you call all the 'well-intentioned' whites who help blacks sell their own kind down the river, plantation owners?

Your question is dead on!

You should run for the Republican Party, especially if you are black.

What Republican policies have demonstrated job creation? NAFTA? I assumed you meant American job creation.
