Well Beckham was sort of my idol back in his Manchester days and I'm still a believer that Beckham can still deliver for both club and country. But to be honest, what has he done to deserve a knighthood? In football, I know Sir Alex Ferguson has recieved a knighthood because he was the first and only manager to lead an English football team to the treble. Sir Bobby Charlton was knighted and for good reasons, he was a key figure in the 1966 World Cup winning England team and the 1968 European Cup win with Man Utd. Sir Matt Busby virtually led two different teams to domestic glory and eventuall European glory in 1968 for Manchester United. There are many other people who have been knighted for doing something significant in football. Beckham has a great career but I don't see nothing much to say he deserves a knighthood. But then again, I don't know everyone else who is receiving knighthoods these days that supposedly done nothing.

First of all, I don't think the title of Knight should be handed out as frivilously as it has been over the past few decades. It seems that it has become the equivalent to American cities giving away a "Key -To-The-City." The title of Knight should only be bestowed upon those who have done something to better England. Has David Beckham done that? Sure he has. Has he done it to the degree to deserve a Knighthood? I'm not sure.

It seems to me that Becks's accomplishments have been more in the way of promoting football/soccer around the world as opposed to bettering England. As an American I will say this, people in the U.S. and Canada who know nothing about football/soccer know who David Beckham is and therefore support Real Madrid and the England national team. So, in a way I guess Becks has done something for football/soccer that no one else, not even Pele, has done before. As for bettering England? If you consider Becks creating an entire generation of EPL and England national team supporters in the U.S. and Canada bettering England, then he has done so.

Does this deserve Knighthood? I'm on the fence.

If Mick Jagger has one, then why not? Beckham has reached the highest point anyone playing club football in Europe would aspire to. And more. He was pivotal in the only English club to have completed a domestic and European treble. He's also set himself as a fairly good role model for kids and has established that football school contributing to the future of the game. Is Jagger or McCartney offering music lessons to kids. He's also in a stable family relationship, which is rare these days.

Yes he does even though he is not on parr these days his personna has encouraged many youngsters to take up the sport. And history will prove what a great asset he has been to the game.

Wether he is worthy of knighthood who can say in this fickle world
we live in, but if the likes of Paul McCartney and numerous other celebs then why not Becks?

For his contribution to football? Maybe.. He hasn't achieved anything with England and everytime they had a chance he didn't play up to his potential. But his goal is to set up football schools all over the world and already has at least one in operation. He's bringing the game back to it's roots away from greed and so on, and back to the kids.

For his contribution to modern English culture, media frenzy and overall fan devotion. I don't think they knight people for that.

I personally would like to see him as Sir David Beckham, and seeing as they knight people left and right these days.. Why not?

NO!! and quite frankly this is a ridiculous questions. As much as Becksy is a great role model and still probably the best 'dead ball' kicker in the world. Hes failed in 5 major championships, and his greatest individual moment was his free kick in the qualifier against Greece. The fact that this question is serious? shows that he is without doubt the most over-hyped and over-rated player of modern times. Nuff said!

Oh geez, Beckham is a joke. If he is knighted, it will basically end what being a Knight is. It will lose all meaning. Elton John was a stretch, but at least he has done good for humanity. Beckham has done nothing, not even for soccer. In fact, he has made me not want to watch it even more.

As much as anyone deserves a knighthood for doing exactly what they want to do for a living and getting incredibly rich off it.

No, He earns enough money for his contribution to English football. Why should he get a knighthood too? (Besides, he probably couldn't spell "Knighthood")
