Probably the Dave Clark Five. It was only later the Stones were considered rivals. At first the Stones were considered the Anti-Beatles

Lenny or Denny Davidson
Dave Clark -
darn......

I also remember seeing the Stones on television on the Clay Cole show (WOR-TV I think channel 9 N.Y... it was their first appearance I believe) the small crowd watching BOOOOOED them constantly and were enraged at their performance.... they really STILL deserve it.

Yes, an ex-beatlemaniac, campus disrupting, waist-length haired, hard-smoking, magna *** laude sociology major(the queen of useless disciplines!) who found Christ, clear-thinking Conservative principles, and a trash can to throw away 1300 vinyls of very pathetic 60's and 70's rock and protest music....
hope you all grow up as well....

I REMEMBER .... Denny Payton

I believe The Monkeys were popular before the Beatles came on the scene , among others but all were and quickly washed away when the the english group came on the scene and were never quite as popular either.

I don't know why people keep saying "The Monkees"... they weren't even around in 1964. I would say the Stones.
