Yesterday, I saw the film "Jesus Camp", which is a documentary about an Evangelical Christian camp for kids run by a youth minister named Becky Fischer. Every year, kids from around the country are sent to this camp in North Dakota to be indoctrinated by Fischer. At one point in the film, Fischer tells a radio talk show host that she doesn't show any political preferences, but other parts of the film show that she is lying. For one thing, Fischer says that she thinks that what Bush has done has been good for Evangelicals. At one point, a camp staff member brings out a life-size cardboard cut-out of George W. Bush and has the kids say prayers for him. Also, another staffer brings out models of fetuses so that he can use them in a presentation to convince the kids, who are often as young as 7 or 8, that abortion is wrong and tells them that it's their responsibility to fight against it. There's no indication that the kids are being taught values such as love and compassion.

In fact, Becky Fischer often uses combative language. At one point, she says repeatedly to the kids, "This is war!" She actually says at one point in the film that Muslim kids are indoctrinated at an early age, so she wants to do the same for Evangelical Christian kids.

The point I'm making is that Fischer and the other staffers aren't emphasizing the supreme Christian values of love and compassion. Instead, they're using their camp to indoctrinate the kids with their political ideology.

Also, if Clinton were still president, do you think that they would have had the kids praying to a cardboard cut-out of him?

Conservatives and the religious right want to destroy the real America and replace it with a Theocratic government based on the evil morality of their rape-torture-kill Christian God (or, as John Adams said, they want to, “"whip and crop, and pillory and roast.")
America was founded as a secular democratic republic. By unanimous approval of the 1797 U.S. Congress:

“As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion”

http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/diplomacy/barbary/bar1796t.htm

This is hardly the first time Christians have tried to undermine the government and overthrow the country. In 1864, 1874, 1896 and 1911, they tried to pass amendments that would rewrite the Constitution to include references to God. Furthermore, there has never been a time in the history of Christianity when it had political power and did not use it for evil purposes.

And today’s Christian terrorists wish America harm as well. On 9/11 both Falwell And Robertson said that God had brought down the trade towers and killed 3,000 because he was angry with America and that we deserved it because we had brought it on ourselves. Of course, on 9/12 they began denying it when it became clear that most Americans were not in the mood for that kind of talk.

We will never know if Adams was right when he wrote,” This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it!”, because we likely we never find out.
But we do know that if the Christian religious-right gains control of America, then only terrorists will control the world. How can deal with Islamic terrorists abroad when we have Christian terrorist traitors at home?.

Well, seeing that he is the sitting president, I don't see the problem. It's not as though he can be elected again, so her saying the he's done good things can't really help or hurt him. Also, the abortion issue is an issue that most Christians thing is a bad thing. She isn't saying that most dems are wrong for supporting it, she says that abortion is wrong.
Is that how you learned love and compassion, by going to a camp? I learned it from my family, which I'm sure is the same place they will learn it.

is it any different to brainwash them as a group versus doing it individually. boy scouts, the a.c.l.u., 4-h. does it really matter. there is not one person in the USA who does not have political leanings. this group is no different. whether or not you believe in GOD, he does exist. are you saying it is wrong to pray for someone who might actually need guidance. i have prayed for irans leader. you speak of love and compassion but are those not the things you should yourself consider for the "Jesus camp" people if that is how you truly feel..abortion is wrong except in life threatening cases and children should not be taught to be indifferent about such things. at what age is another issue. the saying goes, there are two sides to every story and then there is the truth. my truth is that this country was founded on religious principles and should stay that way. the constitution does not impose Christianity but does use it as a basis for inherent freedoms for ALL.

I think both the GOP and the Democrats need to be reined in. Quite frankly, I can't stand either party because there's no room for moderates or independents who might lean in a certain direction but don't toe the party line. For that matter, you should see people's reactions when I tell them I'm a pro-life Democrat. :-)

Jesus doesn't play favorites with either party, and the reason He isn't seeming to tick off both parties more is because they're too busy trying to claim Him as their own. I've got a website project I'm working on to make exactly the point that Jesus is neither a Republican or a Democrat. Not that I'm expecting either party to listen.

This is horrible, it compares to what Hitler did with the Hitler Youth. Any parent who subjects their child to such a camp should be declared unfit. Religion, Politics, Philosophy, etc. anything can be spoiled and made harmful by fanatics.

I've known about this kind of conditioning for decades, having lived in Texas and Oklahoma.
There are a lot of so-called Christians in these parts that act more like neo-nazis.
Scary...very scary.

Remember the felon David Koresh that hid behind children and took them to their death by shooting Government agents? This cult type of Fascism education is happening all over the U.S.A....Bush even made provisions for it's funding through the "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT"...

Want to see the purest expression of hypocrisy? Watch right-wingers defend the exact same phenomenon they oppose in others. No cnsistent principle here, just naked partisanship. Christianity is clearly the Number One threat to individual freedom in America.

Oh my God, I saw it yesterday, too.

The most horrifying movie of the year.

It's child abuse - and I was raised in a hellfire and damnation Christian house, but they would probably call my parents heretics!!
