I think its interesting that this story came out on a wednesday, in time to improve the mid week sales....i've noticed this a lot, others probably have too, that lottery stories tend to come out on a wednesday or a saturday and especially when seasonal trends dictate sales may be slightly down....this story is just an advert! I'll still buy mine on the way home tho!

Well lets put it this way if those university boffins have the secret to a lottery win how come it took them 10 years to work their formula out, not as bright as they make out then are they, its just the luck of the draw and may your luck be in for the next draw.

I understand that their method was to put the numbers in a bag and pull them out in sequences of 6 until they had used 48 numbers and then they used the remaining number to begin the next line and so on until they had 17 lines. The normally very, very, very long odds are thus diminished because all of the numbers are used. It took, I think, about 4 years and cost over 3 thousand pounds but the syndicate won over 300,000 pounds each.

As boffins they should be able to predict the mathematical possibilities of reoccurring numbers in random order, but they would have to apply the chaos theory as with all games of chance there is a random effect. That cannot be predicted by mathematics only theorised about.

If there was a definite way to win the lottery with math, the lottery wouldn't exist because people would win all the time. The lottery is just like any other gamble... it's for the government to make a profit!!!

I think it's mostly luck, but it people wanted to waste more time than it was worth (time is money) then they could probably raise there chances with complicated equations and things

It is all luck, there is no formula for the lottery. If there was don't you think the information will leak out and everyone would then be winning the lottery.

Of course it is luck however using mathematics can significantly improve your chances of winning. Which is what they did. Read the full story it is quite interesting.

You have a better change of being struck by lighting, twice, in the same spot. Sounds like a crock.
