Hi, newly formed rock band with 1 good guitarist, and looking to do covers modern and old rock and pop stuff. Anyone know any decent tunes to cover with 1 guitarist (not double tracked that will sound crap live)

cheers in advance

the stones are near impossible to cover with one guitarist. not only that, most of their songs are in alternate tunings, which makes it even harder if you only have one guitar on stage, and no one to keep changing the tunings on the other one to play the songs correctly.
i like what the guy said about power trios.
i had many great times covering songs by the who in a highschool band. townshends style really lets you cover all the bases. great lead work, great great rhythm stylings and power cord fun. throw a windmill in there every once in while.

Consider some of the power trios of the 1970's for inspiration.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, The Who, Led Zepplein, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk, Rush, Triumph.
Then there's The Ramones and The Sex Pistols.
Don't forget ZZ Top and The Police, too!
