How does one activate the 3G capability of a Nokia phone?

Assuming your operator supports 3G...

In the settings section, there is a Network option. There is a Network Mode option which has a choice of GSM or Dual mode. Try the Dual Mode option.

It is possible this may not attach to a 3G base station because there isn't one nearby, in which case it will attach to a 2G one
