I went for my first ultrasound today. Doctor estimated I was 5 wks, 5days, by using the first day of my last period. I used an ovulation kit that said I was ovulating on the 30th of September, so I either concieved two days before or the day of is what I'm guessing. So that would put me somewhere around only three and a half or 4 weeks right? My question is that when the Dr. did the ultrasound he found the sac with the fetal pole but wasn't able to find the fetal echo or pulse (I'm assuming that is the heartbeat and the right names for it) He told me not to worry that it's very early in the pregnancy and may be just to early to pick it up.I'm really freaking out though now becasue I already had one miscarriage that ended at 8 wks and I'm afraid this one will too. If anyone had this happen to them before, please write back and let me know if and when you finally were able to detect the heartbeat. Maybe it is too early to detect, but that still don't ease the mind of not really knowing.

I just went for an ultrasound at 6 weeks because my doctor was worried I could have an ectopic pregnancy. It turns out that everything is just fine. When I was in for the ultrasound they were able to see the yolk sac and the heartbeat but they really had to search to find the heartbeat. The technician told me that alot changes from one day to the next as to whether they will be able to see the heartbeat or not. Infact, they were only able to see the heartbeat after doing a trans-vaginal ultrasound. They weren't able to see it through my belly. I also had the same trouble calculating the length of the pregnancy because I went according to the date I ovulated but the doctors all count from the first day of your last period. So eventhough they tell me that I'm now 7 weeks, I've really only been pregnant for 5. I hope this helps you. Try not to worry about miscarrying, you don't want to be stressed out. I know its confusing and scary but try to remain calm and occupy your thoughts with how nice it will be when the baby is born. Don't forget to smile and have a great day!

Relax!! I had an ultrasound at 5 wks. 3 days and that's all we saw, there was no heartbeat or anything even remotely close. You're just too early, the heart usually doesn't even start beating until around 6 weeks give or take a couple of days. Try to calm down, you're stressing over nothing right now. Don't borrow troube. You'll be fine!! Good luck!

The heartbeat is detected around 6 weeks. The doctors determine your due date whether it is the right way by taking the first day of your last period adding 7 days to it and then the 9 months. That is how they figure out how far along you are. That is also why they do ultrasounds to make sure they are right on how far along you are.

Good Luck!!

You should be okay, I went when I was 5 weeks and they did an ultrasound, and had me come back at 7 weeks because they couldn't see everything, and thought my baby was dead. But at 7 weeks, they saw the sac, and everything looked good. It may be too early to see the heartbeat right now where u are at, but at 12 weeks they will listen for it, and you should be okay. Goodluck! Don't stress- it will be too hard on you and the baby to worry right now!

with both my girls i heard a heartbeat around 10 weeks -2 1/2mo.s and i had ultrasound prior to that its just that the heart may still be developing at the time of the ultrasound or just be too tiny to hear it .good luck.

It's probably too early for there to be a heartbeat yet. Try to be calm. . .I know women that had miscarriges and went on to have four children. I will pray that God keeps you calm and you have a healthy pregnancy, labor, delivery and recovery! God Bless!!!

CALM down babes.... worrying will ONLY make it worse....for you AND the unborn child......relax and STOP thinking about it.....go back for another ultrasound when instructed to and all will be well. No joke.
