It's not impossible, but it's difficult to do unless you have a really obvious talent (extreme size, amazing speed) that can transfer to success in the NFL.

The example given above should actually be Michael Jennings, as Michael Jenkins is a former Ohio State star now playing for the Falcons. Jennings was a track star at Florida State who signed as an undrafted free agent after showing his stuff in a tryout, and has stuck around for a few years.

Theoretically, sure. You are - we ALL are - technically, "undrafted free agents." I think most teams have open-tryout periods at some point during the summer. They don't spend a lot of time on it, mind you, as they're (justifiably) not expecting much. But every now and then you'll hear about some guy who runs a 4.3 and finds himself on a practice squad or maybe a No. 6 receiver or special-teams guy or something.

Look up a team near you and see if they hold such a thing.

Keep in mind that not having played at any other level is going to put you at a SERIOUS disadvantage, but it's always worth a shot.

Good luck.

You can, there are actually a couple players. Michael Lewis for the Saints. He didnt go to college and only played a couple years of high school football....he even went to the pro bowl a few years ago as a kick returner.

Look for an arena football team. I now in Dallas they have open tryouts for arena football. That is still pro football and a way to get your foot in the door.....Michael Lewis, Kurt Warner, Tommy Maddox all played in arena football for some time.

You can, but the odds are extremely against you. I wouldn't know how to approach getting a tryout with an NFL team, but if you look at current players in the NFL, like Michael Jenkins of the NY Giants, he took track in college and because of his speed, he was able to get a tryout with the Giants and he's now on the team
