Egad! That's a long time to treat a symptom, and not the cause. I've never heard of someone being on an anti-anxiety medication THAT long.

Not Xanax, but something similar. My sister was on Meprobamate (tranquilizer they don't make anymore) for 20 years. They diagnosed her with "nervousness" in the 60s. She never abused it, only took what she was supposed to take, but they kept her on it year after year. In the late 80s, they were going to stop making it and told my sister she had to go to detox just to get off it safely (can cause seizures if you stop suddenly). Once she got off of it, a new doctor told her she never had a "nervous" condition....she had a heart problem and they gave her a beta-blocker. Can you imagine being misdiagnosed for 20+ years?? CRIPES.

My ex has been on it for over 10 years. I really think he is just looking for attention, though.
