I noticed you had a few questions about which games work well with X players. The first link below has a bunch of lists of games that work well with a bunch of players. The second link (taken from the first) is a list of games that work well with specifically 6.
Of the games on the second list, I can personally vouch for Formula De, Medici, and Liar's Dice. I'd also suggest Wits and Wagers, which works well with adults and older kids.

Surprisingly, there are actually a lot of board games that fall into this category.
My favorite for 6 players is probably History of the World, but there can be a fair ammount of downtime between turns and it can run a bit long.
I'm also a big fan of Vinci. A very nice empire building game that plays out in about two hours or so.
Railroad Tycoon plays well with six players. In fact, I believe I may prefer the larger games to the smaller ones we usually play.
Formula De is probably the best if you're not hardcore gamers, fast paced auto-racing fun.
Advanced Civilization is a classic. A great game. Just make sure you have 10 hours to play. Only for the truly hardcore. Which I am.
Acquire works well as a 6 player game, especially if you play with concealed stocks.
Settlers of Catan has a 6 player expansion, but I've never played with more than 4 so i can't say if it holds up well.
Twilight Imperium is fun, but not a simple game. Fairly time consuming.
I know that there are a lot more 6 or 6+ player games out there, but none that i have enough experience with to reccomend.

Catch Phrase is not exactly a board game but it is a lot of fun and can be played by as many players as you want - we had over 20 playing last year during the holidays.
My favorite board game is a version of Clue called Master Detective Clue that has more rooms, more weapons and more people that makes for more fun, and I like the added "snoop spaces" but it's hard to find these days.
Cue Me is an older actual board game that is rather similar to Catch Phrase that it has you say a word or phrase but only allows you to use words that begin with certain letters determined by rolling some dice and it was a lot of fun to play with lots of people.
Solar Quest can be played by many players and is similar to monopoly but I thought it was a lot more fun and challenging and is one of my favorites as well.
Hope this short list with a bit of description helps you find something to make some good fun memories!

The old Civilization from Avalon Hill. Each player starts with one population token as the Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks, and etc. Players then expand their territory, build cities, trade resources, go to war, inflict calamities upon their opponents, and advance their civilization with Engineering, Astronomy, Metal-working, and the like. The only problem with Civ is the large amount of time it takes to play a single game to a decent conclusion (6 to 8 hours).

Settlers of Catan. You'll need to buy the main game plus the 5-6 player expansion, but the game is well worth it. It's won multiple awards and is the best selling board game in our store (comic books & games store)

I am not sure if it is considered a board game or not, but I love to play scattergories. It can get really funny and a great time for a group of people!
