I have no children, but I was spanked as a child. I fully intend to do the same when I do have children. When My father spanked me, I knew I was in real trouble. I never received more than 4 licks at a time and other than simply redness, I never had any bruises. Some children don't understand punishments such as grounding, taking away allowance, and things of that nature. I knew that if I got in trouble not only would I be grounded, into a room with TV, video games, toys, phone, the works, I was going to get a couple of licks. To me, that was the most effective form of punishment and rehabilitation.

Absolutely!

I've a teenager whom I've RARELY needed to spank, a remarkable child, really. But there have been a few times when a spanking was called for, and I delivered it. It was awful, but the Bible says, "Spare the rod and spoil the child".

That was when I realized what my parents meant when they would say, 'This is gonna hurt me more than it hurts you!" before they'd take a green switch or razor strap to my butt, back and legs... I don't believe in that type of punishment for kids though.

I'm a believer in corporal punishment, not beating, not bruising or causing to bleed, but there's nothing wrong with a spanking.

Still and all, I believe spanking is an appropriate and valid punishment for wayward kids... My teenager is a wonderful, funny and charming kid, but I think a part of that is because I've been strict and punished when necessary. My teenager has self-respect as well as respect for others.

I believe it really depends on the situation.

First, I would say the parent needs to exhaust all avenues before spanking. Try talking to the child to find out WHY the kid is behaving that way.

Then, discipline the child by taking away their toys, grounding them, or taking away privleges.

And once you have exhuasted all those forms of punishment, and the kid STILL refuses to alter their behavior, then let them know what the consequences for their actions will be and YOU MUST follow through with it.

Spanking should be the LAST resort.

I don't find anything wrong with it, of course as long as it is not a hard spanking. People now a days want to tell you how to raise your children and that spanking is wrong.

No, I don't...to me it is just wrong, personally I see it as a grown person beating on someone much smaller. i know a lot of people use spanking as a form of discipline but it isn't for me. What do you do for discipline when the kids are just to big to spank? My kids are 18 & 19 now, I used time-out, taking toys, losing privlages, grounding...etc. And I also taught my kids that it is good to talk to Mom about anything...I think that helped a lot! We learned to talk about problems we were having, it helped to avoid a lot of trouble I think.

i do believe if it is al right, by that i mean no marks left on the child and its confined to the butt and its not too much, i talk to my son, he is 6 but if i have no option i will bust his tail, and he knows it, i believe thats the reason you got all these kids shooting up schools and acting crazy, the parents let them do what ever and are too busy working to give there kids time, and no dicipline, god forbid they actually ground there child

I personally dont because to me your teaching violence as a way to settle a problem. Not good in my book, and its against the law. If a grown person hits another grown person its called assault, think about that.
