MLB is currently taking votes on the Look Again Player of the Year, describe as:

"Behind every great team on the diamond, lurking in the shadow of baseball superstars, live the role players who sacrifice for their team in often unrecognized effort. Which of these role players' best deserves recognition for their contributions as the Holiday Inn Look Again Player of the Year?"

Looking at their list, I believe that 28 of the 30 players are white. Is this some odd form of racism, or should it just be the "Good White Player Overshadowed by their Better Latino, Black and Asian Teammate" award? Why the lack of color on this list?

Soccer - I'm not screaming racism, I just thought it was odd that it's 93% white in a league that's 50% non-white. That's why I said "strange," not "obvious case of racism."

The real question is why are there more starters on this list than the "role players" that they are supposedly looking for?

For example, Jose Valantin was the starting second baseman for the Mets, Endy Chavez was the first guy off the bench, shouldn't it be Endy on this ballot?

or

David Eckstein was the starting shortstop for the Cardinals, Scott Spazio (yes I spelled his name wrong on purpose) was their main bench guy, shouldn't it be him on the ballot?

Is this really to honor a "role player" or is it to sell Holiday Inn rooms?

Baseball has lost a lot of its color because for whatever reason young African-Americans are not interested in the game. As far as Latinos and Asians most are in the lime light (i.e., not lurking in the shadows). There is a big push by baseball to get young inner-city kids (i.e., African-Americans) interested in the game which I thinki is stupid. The opportunity is there for everyone and let the chips fall where they may..

Before you start screaming racism you should check how the players were picked. It could just be coincidence if the list was created by asking the players on the team.
