Has it lost some of it's mystery, is it better than the original, or a slightly different movie????

The director's cut adds about 20 minutes to the movie and it makes a big difference. I think it's great and I'm not sure why it was edited down in the first place.
If you really liked the movie, you should at least see the director's cut.

I'd choose the original over the director's cut.

i was actually disappointed with the director's cut, it took away much of what had made me love the film in the first place. i prefer the original.

if you're into obscurity and enjoy to come up with your own pretentious ramblings about what a movie is really about, then you're going to enjoy the original. if, in order for you to enjoy a film, you have to totally understand where the director was directing the audience, then watch the director's cut.
personally, i enjoyed and own them both.
