Hi!
1. If the laptop turned off, and I mean that it actually displayed the shutting down message... there might be a chance...
Reset the BIOS (if you can).
If you can open it (nothing to lose in this funky situation) remove the power cords of the optical and floppy drives. Remove the PCMCIA cards that might be plugged in: the idea is to strip the PC (the laptop is a PC) down to the minimum... Keep only these connected to the motherboard: CPU, RAM and video (thus no HDD, sound, LAN if possible). Try it now. Should work.
If not:
a. It's dead!
b. It's dead... the power supply unit (transformer).
If it works then connect the disconnected devices 1 by 1, by importance: HDD, optical, LAN, etc... you choose. After each plug start the machine. If, the machine started, but then, when you connected the device, it didn't start, then... the device needs replacement because it seems to be broken or malfunctioning.
2. If the machine simply stopped without any warning, then, hopefully, the power supply unit died (if the laptop was connected to the power line using the power supply unit, at the time of the incident). Try some DC 12-24 V Bulb. It hast to emit light. Or use a digital multimeter. Make sure the output of the unit is the one written on it's case. If not, replace the unit.
3. If you were on battery, then... the machine seriously crashed. The laptop, when connected should display something on the screen.
If you try to boot and:
a. Nothing happens: CPU, at least, but maybe also RAM and motherboard... DEAD!
b. It beeps... good sign, it means that it cannot access the RAM. Try the RAM in another system, if possible. Try the RAM from another system. If, after replacing the RAM, the system still beeps... the memory controller is DEAD! If not... good sign: only your original RAM chips are DEAD! Replace them.
c. It still beeps, but for a smaller number of times: there is still something fried on the machine. Make sure you have the minimum PC configuration (as described on paragraph 1). If the machine is down to its minimum and the BIOS is reset, then... another thing is FRIED, in which case you can safely dispose of the motherboard, because it's DEAD!

Try popping out the battery and plugging the laptop in with the power supply (leaving the battery out), then turn it on. If you are not getting any lights whatsoever when it is plugged in, it may be the power supply.
Worst case scenario is that your MOBO is fried. You best bet is if you have a warranty, give them a call.
It's either the battery, the powersupply, or the motherboard.

Yeah you should be Absolutely fine.... I played on my laptop at a friends house and he had small as space and i still managed to play comfortably...as long as you have that mouse + pad you ll be alright... and an added benefit is that you can take your laptop with you where ever you go to play cs (whether it be your friends house or just move it around your own house)
