currently finishing a PhD in biological sciences and would like to get out of academia into something well paid with job stabilty. Not sure where to look except jobs.ac.uk and newscientist. Would be interested in industry (pharmaceuticals/ biotechnology)- but don't know where to look/ how to apply at postdoc level, government (applying for civil service currently) or anything else I can use my qualifications for?

I'm getting my Ph.D. in biology as well, and I've thought the same thing as you! Ignore all those people who say that you should have thought about this sooner. It's hard to know for sure until it's time to apply for jobs.

Here are some websites that I've found useful:
www.naturejobs.com
www.sciencejobs.com

You could also try a generic job search like:
www.monster.com
www.hotjobs.com
www.careerbuilder.com

Finally, pick up a copy of any well respected journal like Nature, Science, Cell, etc. and look in the back. There are usually tons of job opportunities listed there, especially in industry.

Good luck!!

Wouldn't have thought someone with a PhD would need to ask such a question, especially here. Go and see an advisor at your Uni or Job Centre Plus.

What about the BBCs Natural History Section (based in Bristol) or the Natural History Museum in London (my cousin has a degree in Biology, and works part time there).

Doesn't your university / place of academic study provide you with careers advice or general information about what you should expect once you leave / finish study? Surely they will be able to put you on the right track?

try normal job searchs. dice, monster, large companies in your field, etc... I assume it is a good time to find work in a biotech company.
