I think it would be OK for exhibition, or if you prefer, preseason games but it is ridiculous for the NFL to schedule regular season games in a foreign country. Some team would have to give up a home game, which could greatly affect the outcome of the divisional races. What would be the point anyway. I doubt that a country where soccer, or football if you like, would embrace American football. Just another case of greedy owners trying to line their pockets at the expense of its core fans.

In addition to the problem turkey mentioned (some teams will lose a home game), I have no idea how they would handle the JET LAG that the teams involved will inevitably suffer. It almost seems like if you send a couple of teams abroad, you'd have to send them all abroad (at some point in the same season, not necessarily for the same week) to keep things fair (and even then, only half the teams would lose a home game!).
And I think your question is a little off. I don't think the NFL has decided to play regular season games outside the country YET. I believe the matter is still under discussion and will come up for an owners' vote soon.
UPDATE: My fault - I see they took this vote yesterday. Although they say some teams are clamoring to play games abroad, I doubt any of the real playoff contenders are among them. Or else maybe the teams are all hoping that they'll get lucky and be chosen for Canada and/or Mexico (less traveling, maybe no jet lag) instead of the European countries under consideraion.

I think its great for exhibition or preseason games. It promotes the sport and its great exposure for a great game.
The turnout in Mexico City for an NFL game is truly remarkable.

It should increase the popularity of the sport world wide. Let's just hope they send better talent than Arizona and the 49ers.

fine as long as it's only in Canada or Mexico. Long trips to Europe would be ridiculous.

good promotional idea as long as they are not thinking of expansion teams outside of the U.S.
