Well, I'm not positive you can use the service in the UK, but Capital One has a pretty nice online money market account that you can withdraw from whenever you want and has no min. balance, but a decent interest rate.

do you mean one off savings, or regular monthly savings. The best rate for a one off deposit is a bank called ICICI (it has a couple of branches, but the accounts based on line). They are a subsidiary of one of Indias biggest banks, and pay 5.15% (as i recall). try icici.co.uk or .com
