I'm sure winning the Super Bowl in his final year is the highlight of his career, but his best individual season was probably 1996, his first with the Steelers. He had 1,431 yards rushing (his second-highest total), along with 11 TDs, a mark he wouldn't equal for another 8 years. He also averaged 4.5 yards a carry, a far cry from the 3.6, 3.8, and 3.3 he put up near the end of his career.

I know Bettis will be remembered as a bruiser who always got the short-yardage carries, but it shouldn't be forgotten that he was a complete back who at one time had good speed.

This past year when he went back to Notre Dame and said at the Friday night pep rally before the Michigan game that he "is from Detroit and he hates Michigan" then his alma mater proceeded to get whipped 47-21(at home).
