It seems to me that people use the idea that "everything happens for a reason" just to justify certain actions or "explain" certain events that have happened to them that they couldn't explain otherwise. And also, does this idea always have to have something to do with God and predestination or is there another "reason" that things happen?

They use it to try to understand why bad things happen that we can't control.

I believe everything happens for a reason. I try to look at the bright side in things. I use this to explain why things happen to me, not as an excuse for what I do. I like to think that there is a reason why all this stuff that happens. I just couldn't handle thinking that the bad things that happen have no reason for happening and just don't need to and that my life would be the same, if not better, without them happening. I don't think that it's just luck. Yes, for me this has to do with God. ♥

People just hate the idea that their life is just a matter of chance. They want to think that there is a meaning to everything. That's why they sometimes say that something happens or doesn't happen because it is God's will. They cannot accept the idea that things happen over which we have no control or that we are here for no higher purpose than just to be born, live and die.

I believe there is a lesson in everything. When I personally say "Everything happens for a reason." I believe it. If you pay enough attention to the situation, people involved, and have a broad perspective you can see what it is and why something happened and hopefully learn from it.

I feel that what you are saying is this is the same as people saying "s**t happens" and maybe to some it is. However for me its not.

that is a difficult ques. to answer. i believe it is a scape goat answer that people use when they can't or won't find an answer as to why something has happened. perhaps they do not want to see their part in the situation, perhaps they are not strong enough to deal with the specifics of the situation.yeah, everything does happen for a reason but isn't it happening(whatever" it" is)due to the choices we make?

I hate it when people say that!! It's like they have no control over their life, and they think it's ok.
