Studies have shown that job satisfaction increases with the degree
to which workers enjoy autonomy and choice with respect to which
tasks they do, and the manner in which they perform them.
In other words, if your boss is a bi t c h or controlling jerk, and you
have zero input per what you do, when you do it, and how you do
it, you're probably a redneck(just kidding, you have to be silly
on Wednesday). I mean, your probably pretty miserable then,
and even hate going to work in the morning.
It actually literally hurts inside, as I can attest from my share of
totally controlling jobs.
Temp jobs are good for totally controlling.
Retailing and secretary/receptionist jobs are 100% monitored,
like cattle at an agribusiness farm.
They do everything at those jobs but stick anal probes up your
a s s to keep track of your temperature.
Some of you have great jobs, but I'm sure some of you have awful
ones. I want to hear just from the awful ones, how bad your job is.
Tell us.

tex, well put...enjoyed reading your comments.....I had a gov't job at a county courthouse for a few years, and saw gov't
bureaucracy first hand....the pay grades,
the erecting of responsiblity walls("not my job." " That's Sue's turf, have to ask her."
etc.), and the generally anomie and deadening spirit that pervades gov't offices.
Prob the most extreme examples of gov't
bureaucratic nightmares would be the quasi-gov't post office, the DMV, and any
govt benefits agency like unemployment
and soc. sec.
In a funny way, you really ARE in control in a govt' job, as just about EVERY position
allows a just clocking in, passive-aggressive resistence. I'm refering to intentionally slowing down your work or
leaving your post because you feel like it.
Nothing like the lack of a profit motive to invite responsibility stonewalling..........

One quick story..at Daley Center, cook county court headquarters in Chicago, we
had theis 400 pound messenger named
Big Steve.......he would sleep all day, and have to be woken up to walk out a file.
He told us he slept because he had a night job at Presbyterian-St. Luke hospital at night. We later found out that he got fired
from the hospital for sleeping on the job, and he told the hospital he slept cause he had a dayjob at Daley Center.
I can't make this stuff up..................
Not even if I tried.......................
