Just wondering...to go along with my project. So i know how long i need to grow the Bacteria so i can get the amount needed.

Yes, some bacteria such as E. coli have a generation time of 20 minutes while others (Mycobacterium) have a genteration time up to 20 hours. Typically most bacteria divide by binary fission in less than an hour.

What type of project are you working on? How much bacteria do you need and what type of bacteria are you working with? Generally, most people grow a culture of bacteria overnight and then will dilute to concentration needed.

There's a formula you can construct in these scenarios. If each bacteria produces one new one every 20 minutes, that means every 20 mins the number of bacteria doubles. So figure each generation is going to have 2*the previous generation's amount. Let n equal the number of generations. Let k = the number of bacteria generated. K = 2^n. n = time/20 minutes. We set n this way because a new generation is created every 20 minutes. Clear enough?
