Hohoho :)
It can be heartbreaking but at this age, they might already be a bit suspicious.

She probably already knows as at that age there is usually alot of talk in school about the holiday and Santa. Your 8 year old could know also. If your financial situation isn't the best, you could tell your daughter and reassure her there will be something for her. As for your son, i would wait a couple of years and see if by his actions you can tell. It may be your daughter will spill the news that they both know the truth.

The eleven year old is probably just going along with you on this one. I doubt if she believes and if she does, break it to her gently as if she mentions it in middle school, she will have the mickey taken out of her for believing. As for the boy, leave him alone - his sister will probably tell him what you said and there is nothing you can do about it. The memory of Santa Clause is still one of the most beautiful memories I have of my childhood. We were very poor but that did not matter. Trying to stay awake all night and catch Santa is as vivid today as it was then - and that is over sixty years ago. Keep your children young as long as possible, let them believe in tooth fairies, giants, Halloween, Santa, Jack and the Beanstalk. You are not telling them lies, at least not real ones, they are merely 'white' ones and my God will fully understand what you are doing. Life will start getting harder for them within the next ten years or so................

I don't think there is any "right" age. What's the problem with her continuing to believe? She's probably not going to believe for much longer, if she hasn't figured it out already. If she starts to ask questions and doubt, then I would go ahead and tell her the truth because it's not worth out and out lying to her about it. I would then try to tell her the story of St. Nicholas (a real person) and how he secretly gave gifts to people who needed money and explain how the idea of "Santa Clause" got started.
Try to explain why you don't want her to spoil it for your 8 year old son. If she enjoyed believing, she shouldn't want to take that joy away from her brother.

I figured out the truth when I was 9 years old. I questioned my parents and they told me about Santa, where the presents come from, etc. Then they let me know that I was now in on "The Secret" with the grownups. This was a perfect way for me because I didn't spoil it for my little brother.
I have a ten year old boy and he still believes. When he asks me that is what I plan to tell him too.
Good Luck

When I got that question, I did what I always do. I gave them the whole story. In this case, about St Nicholas, and of how the legend spread, ending by reading the Sun Times quote. "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"...

I never told my kids, I just let them find out on their own, she probably already has her suspisions, but many kids stiil like the thought of Santa coming round. My daughter is 17 I still ask her what she wants from Santa, she knows, but she still has a laugh about it.

No, I do not think that there is a Santa Clause. I think that the best age to tell your kids this is at age 13. Tell you daughter not to tell her brother until he reaches the same age. Make sure you pinky swear it.

Why tell him I'm sure he realizes that here is no real Santa by now. I never told my kids they knew but never told me, I still believe otherwise I wouldn't get so many gifts LOL
