Do you remember last year with all the hurricanes and the calls that Global Warming was the cause? Meteorologists stated is was just a cycle of nature that we go through, seems that they were right. If they were caused by global warming and the temp. is skyrocketing as these morons like Al Gore claim, what happened this year? Oh, I know, the high gas prices stopped people from driving and that brought the temp. down. Quick, everyone sell their cars and we can live another 100 years. Don't waste your time worrying about the Rockies being underwater next week. Use common sense and don't pollute/destroy the environment, the rest will take care of itself.

Global warming should more correctly be called the process of global climate change. Although the net effect is a steady rise in average planetary temperature. Global warming is caused by the presence of particulate matter in the atmosphere which traps the heat delivered by the sun's rays in what is known as the "green house" effect. The present cause of global warming appears to be a dramatic increase in so-called "green house gases," particularly carbon dioxide (CO2) ejected into the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels.

The overall effects are not yet known, but we do have some predictions. Chiefly, sea levels will rise due to melting glaciers and the Antarctic ice caps, storms will become more common and more powerful, and the process of North Atlantic convection that provides Great Britain with a temperate climate could shut down, turning Britain into a deep freeze. Of course temperatures are on the rise as the tropics "expand" and heavily populated cities like Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Los Angeles, etc. could all simply run out of water due to an absence of rain.

The chief solution to the present global warming crisis is simply to stop placing more CO2 into the atmosphere. The chief culprit is automobiles. Unfortunately, with the burning of petroleum on the rise in China and India and the United States unwilling to curb its appetite for oil, it appears that things will get much worse before getting better.

The Earth's average near-surface atmospheric temperature rose 0.6 ± 0.2 °Celsius (1.1 ± 0.4 °Fahrenheit) in the 20th century. The prevailing scientific opinion on climate change is that "most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities"[1].

The increased amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) are the primary causes of the human-induced component of warming. They are released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing and agriculture, etc. and lead to an increase in the greenhouse effect. The first speculation that a greenhouse effect might occur was by the Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius in 1897, although it did not become a topic of popular debate until some 90 years later. [2]

The measure of the response to increased GHGs, and other anthropogenic and natural climate forcings, is climate sensitivity. It is found by observational [3] and model studies. This sensitivity is usually expressed in terms of the temperature response expected from a doubling of CO2 in the atmosphere. The current literature estimates sensitivity in the range 1.5–4.5 °C (2.7–8.1 °F). Models referenced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) project that global temperatures might increase between 1.4 and 5.8 °C (2.5 to 10.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100. The uncertainty in this range results from both the difficulty of estimating the volume of future greenhouse gas emissions and uncertainty about climate sensitivity.

An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. These changes may increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes, and tornados. Other consequences include higher or lower agricultural yields, glacial retreat, reduced summer stream flows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. Warming is expected to affect the number and magnitude of these events; however, it is difficult to connect particular events to global warming. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming (and sea level rise due to thermal expansion) is expected to continue past then, since CO2 has an estimated atmospheric lifetime of 50 to 200 years. [4]. Only a small minority of climate scientists discount the role that humanity's actions have played in recent warming. However, the uncertainty is more significant regarding how much climate change should be expected in the future, and there is a hotly contested political and public debate over what, if anything, should be done to reduce or reverse future warming, and how to deal with the predicted consequences.

global warming causes the greehouse effect, which traps sunlight, increasing global temperature. that will result in polar ice caps melting, which will rise sea lvls. risen will cause land mass to reduce. more water from the + sea lvl will cause more water cycles, which will result in more rainstorms. Risen global temperatures, due to global "warming" will result in more severe tropical storms.

deforestation causes it, and so does emissions from factories and cars. With deforestation, less photosynthesis. trees absorb CO2, which is a greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases trap heat, and causes global warming. So, when less tress are present [deforestation] and when more trees release carbon monoxide [green house gas]

hmmm. some effects... the ice caps melting very very fast... holes in the ozone layer... the remedy... well, i doubt will get to that for another 50 years or more.
