Similar to fall asleep to pass from one state to another in this case "not in love" to "in love". To fall in love is attested from 1423, to fall asleep is 1393

u have to let urself fall to be in love...dont u know these tests where one person lets himself fall straight back and the other one needs to catch them.love is the same way u have to let urself fall in the faith the other will catch u

no way but down once you are in love... hence the term fall..
