Money can be made by selling things you collect, such as fruit from the fruit trees (give them a good shake and the fruit should fall to the ground), shells from the beach and fish and insects you catch.

To sell them, have a look in the in-game map for Tom Nook's store.

Talk to Nook, the shopkeeper, and the option to sell will appear. Simply transfer the things you wish to sell from your inventory to his.

To buy things, you can either buy them from the same shop, or, if you want clothes and accessories you can go next door to the hedgehogs ( you can also sell clothes and design your own patterns here) just talk to the shopkeeper.

(what is up with the answer below mine??)

Games, have terrible many ins and outs... Some games, are not about winning and being NUMERO UNO....TEAM SPIRIT being One people under SPIRIT written AL over them..... I've been trained to be a good sport until I believe this to be true... Having a Good Time is more essential nowadays, as Netherlands Government approves of FOOD BANKS FOR PEOPLE ON WELFARE..... And None of the Government as(s)hamed Thinks any worse of their Politics, that brought these about....

you can get money by shaking trees and selling items that you have. But first you have to pay of a bill for your house. The bill is alot, you work for the person that you have to pay of the bill. it is also good to make freinds because they give you items to sell. They also give you money for running little favors
