HEY HEY HEY!!! I haven't heard that. It's a bit of a stretch, though, being as each episode wrapped up with some kind of moral object lesson for kids. Stick around, you just might learn something... HEY HEY HEYYY!!!

My 12 year old son thinks it's funny, and he struggles with his weight. I have some heavy friends that are veeeeery sensitive about weight issues, So I don't care for the show, but once I watched it with him to see why he liked it. From what I gathered, Fat Albert was being depicted as a cared for member of his society no matter how he looked. Maybe that's good?

Fat Albert was cool. I use to watch it as a kid and never got the impression that it made fun of big people.

On the contrary, Fat Albert was a positive role model, and the whole point was to show that just being big doesn't make you bad, or stupid or dumb, or any of the other negative stereotypes associated with being overweight.

Actually Fat Albert was a character based on one of Bill Cosby's closest childhood friends (if I remember correctly his name was Albert Johnson). It had nothing to do with his weight, but that was his friend's nickname when they were growing up. The other characters were based on his childhood friends as well (he used their nicknames as well).
It was a good show and it taught children valuable lessons. They should show more shows like this one.

I grew up watching Fat Albert. It may seem offensive now, but didn't at the time.

I never thought it was offensive when I used to watch it. It wasn't just about Fat Albert, there were other characters too. And it wasn't just about him being fat. They tried to teach kids a lesson.

Perhaps he should be called Overweight Al or Big Boned Albert. Would that soften the blow?
