My husband and I are Den leaders and have been having problems with parents choosing to have kids in other activities over scouts. We have awesome meetings and the kids are rarely bored. Also have noticed that people still make fun of the boys when they wear their uniforms, I thought that raising good kids with a good work ethic and respect was top on most parents lists.Guess not huh!?

I was a girl socut most of my childhood, and then a girl scout leader and cubmaster years ago. There is a stigma attached to these organizations wrongfully. Members are considered social outcasts. Why? Americans are funny people. If a person goes against the flow and joins a group for the purpose of learning and belonging and helping others they are seen as geeks, etc...
So sad but true. I got little help from parents and was seen as a free babysitter. Parents are way too full of themselves and definitely misguided...

I think Scouts is a great organization. I dont have kids of my own but I have been to Scout presentations and dinners. They are good family events. I think the parents should be involved as much as possible to show support and more parents should encourage their kids to join.

Are you raising Boy Scouts or Nazis? Just because they don't spend every moment of their day doing Boy Scout activities doesn't mean their parents are bad parents.
