Is infrared quarts heating for home heating a good way to go.?

It's a good way to get additional heat in a particular room but it would be expensive to heat an entire house this way. My home is gas but I do have a portable quartz heater for my work room because it's too cool in there for me. It does a really nice job of raising the temp a few degrees but I can tell on my electric bill how much time I've spent in there by the amount of the bill.
