Depends on size and type. In Florida it takes about 100 people nearly a month for a block and timber construction(around 2,500sq. ft.)
Pre-fabs are quicker, depends who's watching, as little as 4 days, after ground prep. (and max over 2 months)
In Britain a lot depends on the ground, clay needs a lot more foundation, I've seen up to 15ft deep reinforced concrete for a 'normal' sized British detached (probably 1,200~1,500 sq.ft.)
Its a bit like asking how long is a piece of string.

The house itself can be built in a few weeks depending on size etc. But the slowest job of all is waiting for planning permission and trying to get someone to do it when it is convenient for you to be there to oversee the project.

here in australia, a team of 4 men literally throw a house together in days it seems! - about 18 months, they reckon, until you can move in
