Scottrade will have the lowest commissions but if you care about what price your market orders get filled at i would look elsewhere. I first started at Scottrade and sometimes it would take them over a minute for them to fill my market orders and when they did it would not be at the bid/ask when i put the order in. Etrade is good and they have flat commissions too but i had to leave them because they have screwed up margin restrictions. Schwab is good too but the 12.95 is only for the first 1000 and any thing over that can be costly. I currently switched my money to ameritrade because of their trading speed and flat fee but i will have to wait and see how they are. I know most professional traders traders use interactivebrokers.com because they have the lowest in trading commissions overall and their technology is par none.

I like to trade on the pink sheeets as well as the New York, American and Nasdaq exchanges. Ameritrade has the same commission for all of these, whereas Scottrade is cheaper for the big exchanges it charges a bigger amount for the pink sheets (over the counter). So I like Ameritrade. I did not like E-trade service as much but some people do.

You might want to hold off on doing tis based on the article in the Washington Post yesterday about hackers having cost on-line broker customers significant losses recently.

I like Scottrade. Excellent website, you can set up a streaming market watch on your computer, trade costs are low and the service has been excellent when I've needed it.
