About a year ago my parents had to get a new motherboard put in. Ever since then the sound has not worked right. The only way you can really hear anything is on headphones. When the speakers are plugged in (and yes we unplug the headphones when doing this!) you can hear a very low sound if you put the speaker right next to your ear. I have put all the volume settings on their highest and nothing is muted. Do they just need to buy new speakers or what else could help?

Most likely the old computer had a sound card with an amplified line out, and the new computer has onboard sound which doesn't have a very powerful amp, so yes getting amplified speakers would be the best bet.

Try reinstalling the audio drivers that came on a cd with the motherboard. Double click the little speaker icon and make sure all of them are unmuted, and at full volume

Check first ur programs volume like windows media player or which u have ---> chek the volume , if this is low then do this maximum, ur prob will solve if still u r facing the problem then call to vandor and show him the mother boared. This is a very basic problem so no need to worry. U can chk also ur speacker cable.

Cheers!!
