Commitment to what? Marriage? that was invented in England, something the rich could do that the poor could not and then the government found it a good way to keep track of the population. To a woman? Most men do commit but the commitment is on a different level to that of a woman, men are more physical than emotional and this can be seen in a lot of other animals on the Earth. Its a strange old world we live in, a woman sees the potential in a man and tries to change him as soon as she does she doesn't want him any more. A man sees the beauty in a woman until she has a few kids and gets older and his eyes start to wonder. Commitment? Is that what we want? Or should it be caring, understanding, acceptance and forgiveness for the endless changes that we have to face through out our lives on this Earth and its such a short life to...........................

I know there is such a thing as a prenup agreement, but isn't that throwing a wetblanket on romance? And if a guy doesn't have an agreement, and the marriage doesn't work out, 95 times out of a hundred the wife gets the house, and the kids, alimony, child support, and the guy gets to live in a studio apartment or worse.
So, from a guys perspective. Keep it simple, no commitment, or get into 6 months debt to buy a suitable rock and gamble that it IS going to work out.

Men are controlled by their mother, their whole life, no matter what age they are and having a wife is another but different type of controll over their personal life. Leaving them feeling they have no elbow room to have any control over what they want in life.. Especially if the mother and the girlfriend have the same ideas and get along well. He will feel alone and lose himself; thus being controlled in all aspects of his life. One thing a man wants to be seen as(especially to his buddies) is being in control of his life; if he makes a commitment he loses his control over his personal life. Plus, he has another person(woman) to answer to when he has been perceived as having made a mistake. Mothers are all forgiving but, wives are not. That is hard to live up to because the man wants to make the mother proud of him and he also wants to make sure his wife is happy, too. Sometimes when men get married they disappear emotionally and the woman becomes the dominate one in the relationship..A man simply cannot handle that emotionall whiplash.

That is such a generic statement.
Do you have any reputable statistics to validate your claim of "most" men?
Do you know the ratio of married vs. unmarried men?
Perhaps it would be wise to break it down into age groups.
I think the numbers of single men would be higher for men in their 20's, lower for men in their 40's.
And why do you not mention woman?
There are a lot of woman who consider themselves "too busy" for marriage.
I wish you luck with your article, but you need to do a little more legwork.

I think most men are afraid of commitment is because they still want to be a player and still mess around with other women but I think sooner or later the men are going to get tired of always doing that or they are going to mess around and have trouble on their hands by either getting somebody pregnant or messing with someones wife.

many claim it's bcoz women are too "needy".
i don't buy that: the real reason is that they haven't found their match. i personally abhor commitment, and as a result men become needy around me, even men who used to claim to be afraid of commitment with their exes. so it's not about the women. logically, if one person claims to dislike commitment, the other has to be needy to make up for it and bring some balance.
so, men are not afraid of commitment. they just pretend, and some repeat it often that they end up really believing it and making others believe it too. we live in a society that teaches men that to be real manly men, they gotta be difficult when it comes to commitment.

Men have a funny perception about commitment. They don't want to be locked into anything that they perceive might get them into a financial or personal bind.

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? That's what's going on today (sadly), under the misguided way of liberal way of living that has taken over.
