Even before we reach the paper mill factory the hversting of trees for paper has already done the triple damage ie to air , water and land oops

At the factory, various chemicals are used to process the pulp into white clean sheet called paper the waste from this process is let to drain off pollution the soil and water facilities; in these factories the main chemical used is sulphur and ofcourse we know that if sulphur escapes in to the air by whatever means it will cause acid rainfall, other than this it is inevtable to avoid the continual depletion of our dear ozone by letting dangerous emissions to the air.

Hope this helps

I used to live near a paper mill. The stench is horrible. If it stinks that bad it has to be pollution. I'm not certain, but I think bleach is used in the process. That gets into the land and water. I'm not sure about anything else. I'd have to ask my grandfather who used to work there.

A paper mill can be running, including pulp mill or excluding pulp mill. Hence pollution differ basis on their types.

Pulp mill (including recovery section) greatly pollute the environment.
Firstly- it destroy trees. Secondly it used various chemicals during pulp processing and chemical recovery as like caustic soda, sulfur containing compound, bleaching agent (Cl2, Ca(OCl)2 ), lime etc. A great portion of them go into the nearby water bodies and the air. Moreover at the time of digesting it release huge amount of organic compounds into the air.

In paper mill section, also used various chemicals as like sizing agent (AKD, rosin), fixing agent, retention aid, filler materials, different color etc. These chemicals also polluted the nearby water bodies.

The chemicals used in the papermaking process can pollute the land and ground water in the area of the plant. The smoke produced from the plant contains sulfur dioxide, which leads to acid rain.
